Colin will explore the role of the senses in experiential learning, focussing on the body and the nature of spatial-relational awareness. He will firstly explore how we have become detached from a reciprocity with the more than human world, and how we might return to our senses. The session will cover the lineage of language as a post kinetic phenomena, human mobilities, the neglected senses, metaphors in everyday use, and practical spatial relational teaching and learning ideas, including his well known ‘Walk The Talk’ learning experience. The latter will be made available to take home as a digital file, as one of his 30 experiences in his latest book: The Experiential Toolkit, blending practice with concepts. The session is partly built on his keynote at the International Conference of Experiential Learning in Santiago last year, as well as new published work on spatial ecologies. Colin will illustrate many of his ideas using practical learning experiences.
